Barbara L. Greene

The youngest of five siblings, Cecil, Clinton Md., Fred, Allentown, Md., Clifford (deceased veteran), Claudia, Clinton, Md., and Clarissa, Boston, Mass.  My parents relocated to Washington, DC after the three boys were born, and was later blessed with three girls.  Just after I was born, the family relocated from far southeast to the other side of the river just blocks from DC General Hospital.

Educational background includes attending Buchanan Elementary School, Hine Junior High School and Eastern High School, graduating in the top 40 of a class of over 300 plus students.  After high school I furthered my education at D.C. Teachers College majoring in Elementary Education, later renamed University of the District of Columbia.

Always an interest in children, as a teenager, I worked during the summer with the Department of Recreation.  In order to continue my education, I worked part time with Geico Insurance Company.  My change in career was realized when I received an opportunity to work as a student at the Department of the Treasury. In addition to my son and always willing to help others, in 1989, I became a foster parent and adopted my daughter Lisa. I am the proud grandmother of four boys and one granddaughter.

After thirty-four years at the Department of the Treasury, Financial Management Service, I retired in January 2009.  During my employment with Treasury, I negotiated to bring in the National Treasury Employee Union to the Financial Center.  I served as a steward, chief  steward, vice president and later elected president of Chapter 202.  I have negotiated several contracts and travelled to provide training for other Treasury agencies.  As supervisor of the Exception Claims Section in the Check Claims area, I was responsible for a staff  whose primary functions included responding in writing to congressional offices, secret service and all federal and state agencies concerning lost, stolen, altered and fraud check payments.

Since retirement, I have dedicated my time to serving as vice-president of the Friends of Ridge Road, Vice President of Anne Beers Parent-Teacher Association and Administrator and Assistant Treasurer for the R & R Youth Football Coalition.
